FPM- My Special Endless Summer Hydrangea

Flower Power Monday Post 18

We all know the beauty of hydrangeas, but to witness hydrangeas turn colors right before your very eyes is certainly quite the phenomenon which was the case when I purchased my very first deep blue Endless Summer hydrangea. Simply having it in my cart and carrying the hydrangea around like a proud mama, caught the attention and rendered comments from nearly everyone in the store including workers who stopped and showed me pictures of their own garden.

After a few days, I thought I saw the hydrangea changing colors, but I put it off each time as me just being sleepy. I eventually started watching my hydrangea nightly and sure enough it was indeed turning purple. By the following afternoon, it would always return to its deep blue hue which was a relief because I didn’t want a purple hydrangea. My mom was a little skeptical of this daily color change phenomenon until she came over and witnessed it for herself. She was amazed because she had never witnessed such a thing either!

After it’s full growing season, I planted my Endless Blue in my front garden in-between my azaleas where I thought it would be safe, but apparently, the next summer, my kids had other plans and “mistakenly” stepped over it multiple times going after their ball. Almost all of its new growth for the season was destroyed and my beautiful blue hydrangea had to start all over. Here’s a pic of it today which is 1 year after its fall from grace. As you can see in this pic, my “pretty in pink” azalea blooms are dropping like crazy now. I’m praying I actually get a bloom this year because its been 2 years now and I miss it. Endless Summer Hydrangea starting over

Here’s a few pictures of a hydrangea planted in my backyard garden from last year. While it didn’t change colors nightly like my Endless Summer, it did have two different colored hydrangeas growing on one plant; one blue and one purple. This isn’t uncommon, but it’s still pretty to look at. This same hydrangea also had one bloom with two different colors which was pretty cool as well.

A few months ago, I had a dream that my garden was overflowing with flowers this year so here’s a prayer sent up to all gardeners everywhere who are putting the work in now, I pray we get a bountiful harvest!

Happy Monday, yall!
