FPM – Caladiums
Flower Power Monday
Hello, friends and happy Monday! Not sure if I’ve posted in FPM since school started back, but yes, summer break is over for us and it’s back to the “routine” of things; ugh. One thing I can say though, is I thoroughly enjoyed my summer break. My kids and I didn’t spend summer break cooped up in the house. Before our break even began, I had this deep desire for me and the kids to simply play outdoors as much as we could for as long as we could. Summer break goes my so fast and before you know it, it’s gone. My husband and I purchased every backyard game we could find and surprisingly it indeed made the kids put down their electronics and simply play outdoors. There was so much family fun and laughter this summer. It was something so simple that I had been needing for a while and it all started with taking action to make it happen. This week, think of some things or changes you want to see within your family and take action to make it happen.
Today’s flower to give you power comes from a potted faux plant I spotted in Target. Although the $25 price tag wasn’t too expensive, I thought to myself; “if only people knew they could get the same look for way less with real Caladium bulbs.” Caladium bulbs only cost $3-5 and come in all sorts of colors and sizes. They are tropical plants so a patio or shade area in your garden would work great for them.
From this faux plant, I was inspired use my own Caladiums; a plant I don’t normally use or even think to use in my floral arrangements. See, you never know where inspiration can come from! I went to my little garden and snipped off a few leaves and put them in water. Because the stems were filled with so much fluid and sticky, I didn’t think they would last. I was quite shocked to see they lasted over 3 weeks in a vase and sometimes even longer. Near the sunny window, you can see how translucent and perfectly heart-shaped their leaves truly are, which is why they’re also known as the heart of Jesus or angel wings.
Here are more Caladiums in a vase in my daughter’s room. Although, all the Caladiums pictured are from the same plant in my garden, the ones in my daughter’s room weren’t as perfectly heart-shaped nor did they last over the 3 weeks like the others.
