Flower Power Monday Week 10
You Can Still Have Pretty Flowers in the Fall!
Many gardeners are under the impression the fall season signifies the end of cheerful flowers, but I’m here to tell you yes, you can have your cake or in this case your pretty fall flowers too. In my zone, my colorful zinnias only just died last week which means I was still able to fill all my indoor vases with bright flowers until the end of November (stay tuned for an upcoming post on this). Your summer flowers can take a little more chill than you think so be sure to continue watering and caring for them even when the weather starts changing. I only decrease the amount of water or don’t water on days the forecast is too low as to not increase risk of frost.
Furthermore, to secure pretty flowers in the fall, I only buy or plant Fall flowers that are pretty. That sounds like common sense, but many simply forget they don’t have to settle for the same color mums year after year. Take a look at my pretty mums that seemingly change colors and form every year. I love waiting to see what they’re going to look like every fall. The darker pink yellow centered mums are just starting to bloom so this year I may have pretty pink flowers into the beginning of Winter.
Happy Monday!
Note: One column holds my mums and the other holds my daisy mums over the last few years; notice the dates.
